Creating
Underworld
This is my Sound Design Portfolio II project for Audio Production at Full Sail University. The concept of this class is to learn how to make unique audio for environments in game foliage and movies. In the video you just watched, I learned how to create the creepy and dark ambience noises including all the torches and footsteps.

Sound Design

When creating different sounds you have to be creative. Fire has to be the most exciting for me. I used three different recordings to create my fiery torches. The audio has wood cracking, wood popping and a little bit of whoosh. Next on the list of sound design is footsteps. Footsteps are difficult to recreate at times because you don't want to sound like the avatar is running. When the avatar is walking on stone, I used different audio as well. I started with a simple step on stone, then a step on loose gravel. Finally I used a regular step with no aded sounds. Using Pro Tools I was able to combine all three sounds to make the footsteps. I used the same method for footsteps of different surfaces in the game design.

Dark Voices

Creating dark voices for Underworld is also part of the game design. It is easy enough to record your voice and add the reverb to it to create a creepy voice. In Underworld, this is not enough, so I was able to slow down the audio with pro tools, duplicate the track and also added a delay. This gave me the sound I was looking for and with the help of pro tools I recorded it all into one track.
